Reviews of Tucano Cortina handlebar muffs keep hand guards on the outside

Good quality but hard to use switchgear David Hack on Mar 25, 2024

Rating: 3

They were easy to fit and looked a good quality product. However very hard to use the right switch gear because thumb is enclosed. On later model maybe okay but my GS has the old paddle indicators so right thumb get a lots of action. Return was managed very efficiently. Replaced with the Wunderlich muffs, which are big and work well.

I’ve been mulling over using muffs for years, my bad, should’ve just got some way back when. Didn’t want anything too bulky so went for the ‘in-guard’ ones. Absolute game changer for windchill and rain protection. Didn’t give 5 stars as I’d prefer them both to cover the switchgear and have windows built in like others. Would happily recommend.

Cold hands? What cold hands? I have grip warmers on my ride and now with my Tucano my hands are warm on the tops as well as the grips. Love them.

As usual quick delivery from Nippy. The muffs were fairly easy to fit once I worked out that I didn't need all the bits in the parcel. Once fitted I went for a ride in 2degree temperature with just summer gloves, after an hour I needed to switch the heated grips on to the 1st level. Nice and toasty. I haven't tried them in the rain yet so can't comment on their efficiency in the wet. Overall very pleased

Great winter protection for old hands that suffer from long cold riding conditions.

The instructions were not the greatest but I guess this is because it’s not directly just for the BMW GS/GSA as these can be fitted to other motorcycles as a universal product. Fitting them wasn’t too difficult. Had to use a bit of brute force to get the levers through the holes so make sure you widen these a bit beforehand with stretching. Once in place they fit very well and are snug. Look great concealed inside the handguards and don’t look out of place. Half the accessories you get with it I didn’t use as they were not needed. Enough space for me to wear my large gloves and have managed to use them in torrential rain with no issues. Provide good wind, warmth and weather protection. I am giving them 4 stars as the instructions let them down plus I was of the impression these were specifically made for the R1200GS which they’re not. Overall I am really pleased with it.

Not as bulky as some, not immediately spotted tucked behind the hand guards. Quick & easy fitment. Truly tested this weekend with a very wet trip to the Brecon Beacons. Riding in unlined summer gloves my hands stayed warm & dry despite the downpour on the M4. Heated grips not required. Width of RH grip slightly reduced by the locking collar but nothing of to much concern, unnoticeable after an hour or two. Cheaper alternative than some winter gloves & easily removable for the summer.

It arrived quickly for an international order. Was bought to replace hippo hands after they were stolen. These are an improved design as they obviously install under the hard backed handguards. They are a little fiddly to fit as they are a universal item, and come with a lot of hardware to fit to different bikes/scooters. In the end they provide excellent protection from rain, cold and wind, and allow you to wear thinner , summer gloves all through the winter months, which is amazing. Have been toasty right down to freezing level, and I’m sure below, but I stay off the roads at that point. Excellent product at an excellent price. Thanks Nippy Normans!

I got these Tucano Cortina hand muffs after a wet & windy ride in January. Using my regular winter gloves, even with heated grips, my hands were still numb after 100+ miles and several hours in the saddle. The following week after fitting these hand muffs from Nippy Normans, I made a similar trip in 1-2 degrees, with no rain this time and no numb hands, that was in summer gloves. What a difference, plus they look like part of the bike. Very happy.

Being tired of spending money on multiple winter gloves and always having very cold hands, I decided to give the Tucano muffs a go. I can now say, this is the best mod on my bike! What a difference it makes, I'm now riding with summer gloves and warm hands. I do have hot grips but running then on the lowest set level and sometimes not even on. The muffs fit inside the OEM hand guards, which makes them a perfect match! I was reluctant to fit the muffs before as I couldn't find ones that had a good fit. The fit all versions are just too big and don't look nice at all. The cortina muffs took about 10 minutes to fit and are definitely a game changer. Well recommended!

Good kit. Keeps hands dry. Come with numerous bits of stuff. I just put muffs over bars n Velcro to inner of hand guard. Easy. Lot cheaper than good winter gloves. Recommend definitely

Brilliant service from Nippy Norman’s. Ordered before 1pm, they came the next day and were fitted ready for an evening winter ride. The handlebar muffs fit neatly behind the hand guards and look really neat and tidy. They work a treat keeping your hands toasty and warm especially with summer gloves on and heated grips.

In contrast to much larger and bulky handle bar muff solutions, I found the Cortina design to be much more aesthetically and functionally pleasing. There was some small compromise to wind resistance compared to others, but it has been manageable. Given that the Cortina design is not specific to the R1250GS, it fits relatively well.

I bought these in October having read the reviews, October was mild so was November. Recently fitted to my GS and they're all goodness although it takes a bit of getting used to, warm dry and toastie. Only criticism is the instructions as they are very generic and misleading in the fact that the kit contains parts that you don't in fact need on a GS 1250, ideally you need to move the L/H mirror mount and then move it back once fitted. Once that was sorted out it took 5 mins a side. NN SAYS We are going to produce improved instructions - apologies if the instructions are not clear enough.

The muffs are good and work well but fitting is a real faff and in the end I had to cut and modify them to get them to fit without interfering with the controls and levers. I have a set of normal Oxford muffs and wanted something g a little more bespoke - its the first purchase I have ever had from Nippys that I was a little disappointed with - but you pay your money and live by your choices. Are they worth it? - if you have no muffs then probably - but buy a cheap set of Oxford muffs they are bigger and go round the outside of your hand protectors then just cut a hole in them to fix your bar end bolts through - less drastic that cutting 50 quid set like these.

Bought a pair of Tucano handlebar muffs as they looked neat and compact compared to others. They were easy to fit with a small extra cut to the inner opening. The left hand muff is perfect and does a great job but the right one makes it difficult to use the right indicator and cancel switch on my 2009 GS due to the muff design which leaves these switches outside the muff. Later model GS's with 'normal' indicator switches would not have this problem. What a shame, I thought, and what is the cure? Well, the left muff fits perfectly well on the right handlebar ( but not visa versa ) so... a bit extreme, I know, but I bought a second pair and used two left muffs. OK, now I've got two spare rights but I liked the concept so much I thought it was worth it. They work really well in sub zero temps and I can get away with using my summer gloves which give much greater feel in dodgy winter conditions. Perhaps a bit of re-marketing is in order here? Anyway, I'm pleased overall.

I was looking for some "sleek" looking muffs, not like the huge bulky ones. These fit great inside the hand guards, work great with the heated grips and were easy to install (about 5-10 mins). They work so well that the heated grips on the lowest setting are almost too hot (-1c outside temp). In summary, if you're sitting on the fence about them. You should definitely go for them.

Most excellent addition to my GS - fits snugly within hand protectors and so hard to notice as looks like part of the bike - meanwhile WARM DRY hands - wearing summer gloves in January and turning down the heated grips - happy days - hallelujah !!

I really like these new muffs, I have fitted them onto my 1250 GS. They were quite easy to fit however the large torx nut does need to be removed from the end of each hand, the hand guard can be flexed out of the way allowing the muffs to be fitted. Unlike the wunderlich version these don't have a see through window, this is not an issue when riding, all of the left-hand switches buttons can be accessed easily including the wheel. I have ridden recently at 2 degrees for an hour and my hands were toastie warm wearing GS summer gloves. They even look good on the bike.

Easy to fit (in about 15 minutes). They look good too. Excellent wind and cold protection, I didn’t even need the heated grips switched on. I found it easy to slide my gloved hands in, even when riding. The only problem I had was remembering where the different controls were around the grips! A good product for the price.

Purchased these after watching a review on You Tube, they are small enough not to look like traditional larger handlebar Muffs, they are an excellent fit, can still play with all the switches and I have worn summer gloves in the height of winter and along with my heated grips my hands were as warm as toast, warm dry hands, perfect.

I bought a pair of Tucano Cortina bar muffs which arrived quickly and intact. Fitting the muffs was reasonably easy but I had to cut the rubber boots supplied to fit over the bar ends as I could not get them on,not sure if it’s my fault or they just don’t suit fully the 2006 gas . Once fitted the are keeping me nice and worm and are not bulky but I find it hard to turn the right indicator on and also to hit the cancel button as they are outside the muff and hafto partially remove my hand from bar to find buttons might improve in time with practice🤔 Nippy Norman’s were great to deal with as before no issues there.A bit long winded but hope it helps .

A much simplified muff for your hands that are amazingly warm and eliminates the chilly wind and rain far better than the winderlich muffs You retain the deflector from each bar end so the muff is smaller in appearance but still just as roomy. The left muff surrounds the wiz wheel and all the controls are easy and not impeded in any way. The right hand muff does not cover the kill switch/ starter switch but it has a section stuck out so your thumb can press the right side switches from within the muff. Over all a very easy fitment and nearly half the price of wunderliech ones. Highly recommended. A definite good buy.
